My apologies to actual poets

Discussion in my class tonight made me think of this poem of mine, so lacking anything better to post, here it is. I've finally rewritten the last stanza so that it's slightly less dumb, so if you've seen this in my IM profile before, this version is a little different.

The Old Woman

A woman of some eighty-odd years
Read of Achilles fast hurling his spears
And turning his foes all to carrion.

Of the Iliad she soon grew bored
Because violence she strictly abhorred,
So she talked to her local librarian.

The book recommended was swell.
The pseudonym was Currer Bell
And the plot seemed egalitarian.

Before leaving for ethereal climes
She’d read the whole book through eight times:
A twice-over octogenarian!

The moral of this story is plain:
Base humor you need not disdain,
For in verse it sounds not so inane
If then couched in terms somewhat arcane
And language that is far from barbarian.

I can't believe you don't have any comments on this true tour de force (which, of course, is French for "slightly long poem that somewhat rhymes and occasionally uses anapests!) So I posted this one.
